Consistent Love

This post is part of a series of 31 Day to Cultivating Heart Connections with Your Child as part of the 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Challenge.

“Hurry! Everybody get your shoes on. We don’t have long.”

Wilbur maneuvered the suburban into the parking spot between two smaller cars. Doors opened, we unbuckled the three kiddos, and we set off across the parking lot as fast as a family with a 6-year-old, 4-year-old, 2-year-old, and one on the way can manage.

We made it to the walkway just in time to watch Old Faithful shoot her steaming water into the air.

Old Faithful fascinates me with her consistent eruptions. It doesn’t matter what time the month it is—she stays on schedule. It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining or the rain is pouring—she sends her water shooting into the sky. It doesn’t matter if she has a crowd of thousands or if no one watches—she consistently sprays.

Our children need a love that doesn’t depend on the time of the month.

Our children need a love that doesn’t change with the seasons.

Our children need a love that stays the same behind closed doors as it is in public.

Our children need a love that isn’t based on performance.

Our children need a love that is unconditional.

Our children need a faithful, never-quitting, no-matter-what-they-did, even-if, always there, consistent love.

To cultivate heart connections with our children, we must give them consistent love—an Old Faithful love.
