“Good morning, good morning, I love you.”
Good morning, good morning, God loves you too.
Good morning, good morning, I can’t wait to spend this wonderful day with you!”
Those simple words are the words I use to greet my children each morning as they stagger out of their bedroom rubbing sleep from their little eyes.
Sometimes I’m met with a giggle.
Sometimes an “Ugh, Mom.”
Sometimes silence as they snuggle in next to me in the big cozy chair where I do my morning Bible reading.
But you better believe, if I am distracted and forget to offer my usual first greeting, they point out my neglect of the “Good morning song.”
It’s become a morning ritual speaking love and connecting with their hearts first thing—before the busyness of the day kicks in, before any messes are made, before any struggled occur.
First greetings ensure the morning gets off to the right start by setting a tone of love, acceptance, and expectation for the day.
Morning isn’t the only first greeting. When you pick your children up from school or activity. After a little one’s nap or older one’s quiet time. When you walk back in the door from being gone somewhere.
Let’s use our first greetings as tools to cultivate heart connections by setting a tone of love, acceptance, and delight in our children just for being themselves.
