Welcome to a New Year!
Doesn’t the dawn of a new year bring a sense of freshness and hope? Even though we wake in the same bed, in the same house, and have the same laundry pile staring back at us, just the idea of the day being a fresh start holds a sort of promise other days don’t quite match. Maybe it is just the idealist part of me who feels that way.
The past few years I have shied away from resolutions…I always break them and get disheartened and give up completely on them anyway. Instead, I set a few goals for myself and work to achieve them. Last year, my two main ones were reading through the entire Bible and launching this blog.
I’ve set a few goals this year, but mainly, I’ve chosen to focus on just one word.
Maybe that doesn’t come as a surprise to many since as a writer, I am a bit of a word fanatic. Balderdash, Scrabble, Boggle, or Scattegories anyone?”
The idea behind choosing one word for the year is to use that word as a lens through which you look at life for that year. By looking at life through the lens of this one word, you have a focus and clarity through which to see what it is God wants to teach you and to filter everyday choices and major decisions.
With that bit of background, the word God laid on my heart for 2018 is…
Bum-bum-pa-ta-bum…
Connect
This year my lens through which I look at life and make decisions will focus on how I connect.
- How do I connect with God?
- How do I connect with my husband?
- How do I connect with my children?
- How do I connect with others?
- How do I connect with ideas that challenge me to think?
I’m excited to see how 2018 plays out and what God teaches me as I seek to connect. This year as I seek to encourage and equip all of you in your mothering (and grandmothering) journeys, I’ll be sharing what I’m learning along the way. I truly look forward to connecting with you throughout the year as I delve into some of that here.
I’d love to hear from you. Do you make resolutions? Write out goals? Choose a word? Or just take it all as it comes?
Happy New Year!
That’s a great word!!! Can’t wait to hear more about it as the year goes on! New Year’s Blessings to you and your family!
