Open Communication

Sharing is caring!

This post is part of a series of 31 Day to Cultivating Heart Connections with Your Child as part of the 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Challenge.

We already talked about not shying away from the deep topics of conversation if we want to cultivate heart relationships with our children. Today we are talking about conversations again, but this time, it’s about keeping communication open.

In order for there to be open communication between a mother and her child, both have to talk, and both have to listen. But because we cannot control exactly what another person does, we can only control ourselves. And that is where our responsibility lies in this open communication equation—keeping our ears open to hear and our mouths open to talking about what needs to be talked about.

Open communication requires us to listen.

Listening to the everyday little tidbits our children share.

Listening to the ideas they contrive.

Listening to the questions they ask.

Listening to the dreams they whisper.

Open communication requires us to share.

Sharing our little tidbits.

Sharing what we are learning.

Sharing our apologies when we mess up.

Sharing our hearts.

When we do our part to keep the doorway of communication open, we cultivate heart connections with our children so they will be more likely to openly communicate with us.
